"रंग हरा हरी सिंह नलवे से" - "मेरे देश की धरती सोना उगले -उगले हीरे मोती" - - In this classic song, the name of Hari Singh, the warrior for whom this word is used, was not taught to us beyond Sikh history, but The importance of the name is so much that it is said that when the US-Afghanistan war was at its peak, then the American general used to narrate tales of Hari Singh Nalwa to excite his soldiers.

Hari Singh Nalwa was the first warrior to merge Kashmir in Punjab State.

Hari Singh Nalwa, the commander-in-chief of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, was made the governor of Kashmir and Peshawar, In Kashmir he minted a new coin known as 'Hari Singi'. This coin is still on display in museums.

'सा बच्चे हरिया रागले’ - that is, if you do not fall asleep, then Hari Singh Nalwa will come - this is the hallmark of his indomitable warfare and valor. Even in the tribal (rural) areas of the North East Frontier of Pakistan, when a child cries, the mother asks her to silence - 'सा बच्चे हरिया रागले'.

Hari Singh Nalwa was one of the main heroes of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's conquests and border expansion. After Ahmad Shah Abdali,During the time of Timur Lang reign Afghanistan was wide and unbroken . It also consisted of Kashmir, Lahore, Peshawar, Kandahar and Multan,Herat, Kalat, Balochistan, Persia etc.

Hari Singh Nalwa conquested all the above states and merged them into  the state of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He made a special contribution to the victories of Attock in 1813 AD, Multan in 1818 AD, Kashmir in 1819 AD and Peshawar in 1823 AD. Thus, by 1824 AD, Kashmir, Multan and Peshawar also came into Maharaja Ranjit sing's dominion.
